The Crypto Open Patent Alliance accused Craig Wright of fabricating a complete biographical history during a court case.

Craig Wright confesses he's not Satoshi, issues disclaimer on his website.

On July 16, Wright posted a legal disclaimer on his website, firmly denying that he is Satoshi Nakamoto, the anonymous creator of Bitcoin. The disclaimer referenced a recent ruling from the United Kingdom High Court of Justice and directed visitors to the Crypto Open Patent Alliance's findings summary.

The disclaimer's most significant points were his admission that he did not write the Bitcoin white paper and the acknowledgment that he does not hold copyrights to the technology described in it.

In 2023, Wright sued multiple Bitcoin developers, claiming they violated his copyrights on parts of the distributed ledger system's underlying technology and claiming ownership of the Bitcoin database.

Since 2016, Wright has claimed to be Satoshi Nakamoto, the mythical pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin. In 2024, the legal fight reached a climax when the Crypto Open Patent Alliance presented more than 50 pieces of evidence that dismantled Wright's claims.

During the trial, the Crypto Open Patent Alliance brought in forensic experts and on-chain analysts to testify that Wright had created a large number of complex forgeries and metadata that showed signs of tampering.

Ultimately, Judge James Mellor agreed with the Crypto Open Patent Alliance's arguments, which demonstrated that the creator of a highly technical system like Bitcoin would not have made the careless mistakes found in Wright's forgeries and altered metadata. This led to the definitive conclusion that Wright is not Satoshi Nakamoto.

More recently, Wright's assets were frozen by the United Kingdom's High Court to assist podcaster Peter McCormack in recovering $2 million in legal fees spent defending against a defamation lawsuit filed by Wright in 2019.

Furthermore, Wright may not be out of legal jeopardy. After the United Kingdom High Court's ruling, Judge Mellor suggested that the Crown Prosecution Service investigate Craig Wright for perjury.
