Trump's 2024 Campaign to Accept Crypto Donations

Facing multiple criminal charges, former President Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee for the 2024 U.S. Presidential election, will likely face off against President Joe Biden in November.

On May 21, the Trump 2024 campaign announced it is now accepting cryptocurrency donations via Coinbase Commerce. The campaign's fundraising page supports Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Dogecoin (DOGE), Shiba Inu (SHIB), XRP, USD Coin (USDC), Solana (SOL), and 0x (ZRX). This move comes amid attacks on cryptocurrency by Senator Elizabeth Warren, whom the campaign claims is acting as President Biden’s surrogate.

At a May 8 dinner for supporters who bought his mugshot of NFT, Trump promised to enable crypto donations. With less than six months until Election Day, Trump and Biden are set for televised debates on June 27 and September 10.

Despite his campaign accepting crypto, Trump’s website does not mention digital assets. Biden, who rarely comments on crypto, signed an executive order in 2022 to establish a regulatory framework for digital assets.

Trump's announcement coincides with his ongoing New York trial and other legal battles in Georgia, D.C., and Florida. His political action committees are reportedly covering some legal expenses.

Despite previously calling Bitcoin a “scam,” Trump now embraces digital assets as part of his campaign. In January 2024, he vowed to block the creation of a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) in the U.S. Meanwhile, rivals like Vivek Ramaswamy and Ron DeSantis have also highlighted their digital asset policies.
