Australia records 29 consecutive months of growth in Bitcoin ATM installations.

Over the past 29 months, Australia has maintained consistent monthly growth in Bitcoin ATM installations, pushing its total count closer to Europe’s 1,660 ATMs, according to data from Coin ATM Radar. This steady expansion positions Australia as a key player, currently ranking third globally in Bitcoin ATM numbers, trailing only the United States and Canada.

Australia's crypto ATM network is nearing parity with Europe’s, and if surpassed, it will solidify Australia as the third-largest Bitcoin ATM hub worldwide. Oceania and Europe each account for roughly 4% of global crypto ATMs, while Asia has only 0.9%, highlighting a stark regional disparity.

North America dominates the global crypto ATM landscape, with over 90% of all Bitcoin ATMs. The United States, despite its challenging regulatory environment, leads with 31,516 ATMs, equivalent to 81.3% of the global total. Canada follows in second place with 3,027 ATMs, making up 7.8% of the global market.

Globally, there are 38,753 Bitcoin ATMs in operation. However, the rapid growth has also been accompanied by a rise in fraudulent activities. The United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC) reported that losses from Bitcoin ATM scams exceeded $110 million in 2023, with scammers exploiting the anonymity and speed of transactions.

In response, U.S. lawmakers have urged major Bitcoin ATM operators to implement measures to address fraud, particularly targeting elderly users.

Australia’s growth in Bitcoin ATM installations reflects its expanding role in the cryptocurrency ecosystem, while global challenges emphasize the need for stronger safeguards against fraud. As the number of Bitcoin ATMs continues to rise, both governments and operators must remain vigilant to ensure the safety and security of users interacting with these machines.
