The Voltaire era for Cardano approaches with the June hard fork milestone.

Charles Hoskinson, the creator of the open-source blockchain platform Cardano, is looking forward to a significant event in June within the Cardano ecosystem.

The Voltaire era for Cardano approaches with the June hard fork milestone.

On June 9, Hoskinson announced on X that Cardano's upcoming Chang hard fork is rapidly approaching, and it's expected that Cardano Node will reach version 9.0 this month.

This indicates that the Cardano blockchain is prepared for the hard fork and is awaiting the installation of the new node by 70% of stake pool operators (SPO).

"Then, a hard fork can occur, pushing Cardano into the Age of Voltaire," Hoskinson remarked, alluding to the latest phase in Cardano's development stages.

The initial three stages established a foundational blockchain, decentralization, and smart contracts. The Basho era focuses on scaling the blockchain, while Voltaire, the final era, introduces governance, voting, and treasury management functionality to the Cardano blockchain.

Chang will mark the first hard fork of Cardano's Voltaire era roadmap. This era will introduce community-driven governance by facilitating on-chain community consensus and enabling Cardano ADA holders to use their tokens for voting on proposals. According to the Cardano co-founder, Chang represents the "most significant milestone in the history of Cardano," which will help the blockchain ecosystem establish a "decentralized civilization spanning the entire world with millions of residents."

Hoskinson foresees that with Chang, Cardano will boast the "most sophisticated blockchain governance system," along with annual budgets, a treasury, and valuable input from the community.

Cardano's highly anticipated hard fork is expected to coincide with a decline in the ADA cryptocurrency, which has experienced a notable downturn in 2024.

In early April, ADA dropped out of the top 10 coins by market capitalization, making way for the Telegram-linked cryptocurrency Toncoin (TON).
